Furry Poll Results - 2008 Edition

Full writeup complete! More info here!

This page is designed to present in simple, itemised format some key bits of data from the now-closed 2008 Furry Survey, which has been superceded by the 2009 version. The data on this page is current as of 15 January, 2009. Not all data from the poll is represented on this table; for more information, please feel free to contact me at bce@klisoura.com.

There are 7024 entries in the database, with a margin of error +/- 1.19%. Note that not all people responded to all questions, so some entries are based on a smaller data set.

Summary points:

  • 5389 respondents (77.99%) of 6910 answering the question identified themselves as male; 1288 (18.64%) as female
  • 5417 respondents (80.83%) of 6702 answering the question identified themselves as 'caucasian'
  • 3144 respondents (45.79%) of 6866 answering the question said that public reaction to furriness was either "negative" or "extremely negative"
  • 965 respondents (14.59%) of 6615 answering the question said that they were responded to more negatively than the reactions of the general public.
  • 5334 (78.06%) of 6833 respondents answering the question said they "agreed" or "strongly agreed" with the assertion "I consider myself predominantly human". 6.15% answered that they did not consider themselves human at all.
  • Most respondents believe that visual art, conventions, literature, and online communities are "important" or "extremely important" to the fandom. Fewer respondents believe that music is as important.
  • A majority of respondents hold "positive" or "extremely positive" feelings towards conventions and fursuiters. They are largely ambivalent towards plushophiles and ambivalent-leaning-negative towards zoophiles.
