Planets are divided up into sectors. seaQuest notwithstanding, oceans are apparently not usable. The more sectors on a planet, the more things you can put there and, hence, the more useful it is.

GalCiv2 ship design
Ship design is very simple. You have a bunch of blocks and you can stack them together like legos. The little red arrows indicate where new parts can go. This ship here is built entirely with stock parts, and built entirely by hand.

What's even more fun is that you can see them on the main map screen, then. This is the CSS Hesperus, a battleship with lots of missile attack, lots of laser and missile defence, and pretty much nothing for mass drivers. It may suck to be Earth soon, though.

The main map screen shows planets with easily-accessible information. You can sort planets using the menu at the left.

GalCiv2 Civilization Manager
GalCiv2 does a good job of making sure you know everything you want to know. Here we learn that the Border Collie Empire pretty much kicks the Altarian Republic's butt in everything except economy. That's somewhat disappointing.

GalCiv2 war vote
Like in Civilization 2, if you have a democracy, your decisions have to be supported by them. The war vote is a lot closer than I'd like. Opposition speaker Nan'ssii Pe'loz'ee has been working her dark magic.

You can't do anything on the battle screen except watch. Fortunately since my pocket battleships appear to be mopping up fairly well, I don't mind this.

GalCiv2 moral dilemma
The choices you make have immediate impacts and longer-term, more intangible things--good civilizations may not want to trade with evil civilizations, for instance.
