12 supcom_1.jpg SupCom - queued orders The game allows you to quickly queue up build orders. Here, most of the core of a starting base has already been planned, and now the industrious little mecha thing will go build them. supcom_2.jpg SupCom ACU This is what happens when the Iron Giant hits puberty. supcom_3.jpg Engineers driving through forest ... uh, well, you don't tell Greenpeace, and I won't either, how's that? supcom_4.jpg Engineers cooperating on build Cooperation makes it happen! Engineers can be ordered to assist factories in building things. supcom_5.jpg SupCom large map Maps in Supreme Commander tend to be of size Huge. And those are just the small ones! This map, already much larger than those of other RTSes, is a 20x20 kilometre square. The largest ones so far available are sixteen times that size. supcom_6.jpg SupCom map zoomed out If you'd like, it's possible to command your army from this view, with everything being reduced to little coloured squares... supcom_7.jpg SupCom zoomed in ... Or, if you'd prefer, you can get up close and personal with your units. supcom_8.jpg Fatboy and tanks Supreme Commander is a big fan of 'scale'. Here, the most powerful tanks fielded by the UEF faction sit next to their big brother, an 'experimental' type unit capable of building more tanks in an internal factory. supcom_9.jpg SupCom nuclear explosion Well, fuck. Did I do that? supcom_10.jpg Supcom nuke-top view Unlike in other RTSes, nuclear weapons actually mean something. If you figure that this covers about ten percent of the map, and the map is 20 kilometres wide, that's a 2km squared fireball. They can screw people up pretty good. supcom_11.jpg SupCom army Supreme Commander is at its best when it puts you in command of large armies. This--64 heavy tanks, 32 anti-air trucks, 16 rocket trucks, and 8 heavy artillery pieces--is a fairly small task force. It got e't up pretty bad when I sent it in, anyhow. supcom_12.jpg Supreme Commander battle Not surprisingly, given its time in development, Supreme Commander is very pretty. It would be nice, though, if you could sit back and watch the battles--as opposed to spending your time desperately trying to win them.
